How dieting is like foot binding

January is a popular time for women of all shapes and sizes to make goals and devote every waking hour as well as their finite and precious energy into forming – or sometimes just thinking about – habits with the sole purpose of shrinking their bodies. But these efforts – even if we’ve convinced ourselvesRead the whole post >>

Advent & Christmas Books

Recently, I shared what we can learn spiritually from the Advent season during my monthly Relevant Radio Morning Air segment. You can listen to the conversation here. During our chat I mentioned some of our family’s favorite Advent and Christmas season books. One of my most treasured traditions – and one that doesn’t require hardlyRead the whole post >>

The masks we wear

My two oldest daughters recently had a chance to get all dressed up as well as flex their social muscles at their middle school masquerade dance. They both returned home with a glowing review of the event. It was Rachel’s first dance, and I was so happy it proved to be a positive experience. IRead the whole post >>

Fertility, femininity, motherhood, wisdom, and #postcardsforMacron

Mom of *only* 5, so I guess my cerebral capacity won’t be called in to question…yet. So just in case, here are my stats: graduated in 3 years summa cum laude from @universityofga Honors Program. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
