How to not let poor body image moments take you or your life hostage

My family had a rough February. For those of you who don’t follow along with me on social media (I mostly “hang out” over on Instagram these days) on February 6th we received a heartbreaking call at about 4 am that our beloved Pop (my husband’s father) had suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from aRead the whole post >>

The best detox ever!

For me, it’s more like “Die negative thoughts die! Die hate die! Die every single meal plan that demonizes food and calories die! Die body comparisons die! Die fat phobic culture die! Die “New Year, New You” propaganda die! I’m just fine with my good-enough self. Thank you very much. I received an email yesterdayRead the whole post >>

Why I love shopping at Aldi

I’ve been doing the majority of my grocery shopping at Aldi for almost a year now. I started shopping there in an effort to lower our monthly grocery budget, and boy, has it worked! I’ve nearly cut our monthly expenditure on groceries in half. I still occasionally shop at Trader Joe’s, Kroger, and The FreshRead the whole post >>

Why we need Advent

This Advent reflection below comes straight from Getting Past Perfect, but it seems fitting because I’ve seen so many people across social media lamenting that their Advent hasn’t gone exactly as they’d hoped. Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
