Motherhood is Not a Prison Sentence

Happy Feast of Saint Nicholas!  Here’s one from the archives because I haven’t had much time to write lately (obviously). This is an old column (rather than a blog post). It originally appeared at Faith & Family LIVE! and more recently at the Catholic New Agency’s Catholic Womanhood website. I’m starting to raise sympathetic eyebrowsRead the whole post >>

Look Who’s Writing Now

My beautiful and exceedingly talented mom (AKA Gaba) is writing over at Faith & Family LIVE! It’s a tear-jerker, so don’t forget to grab a Kleenex before clicking over there.  Read Outgrowing My Mother.

Advent Traditions: Preparing Our Hearts and Our Homes

‘Tis almost the season for  caroling, feasting, traveling, and of course, preparing our hearts and homes for Christ. (Advent begins in less than one week! Yes, I’m late in posting this, but we’ve had colds and plumbing disasters, and I was trying to get tons of Christmas stuff done ahead of time so Advent wouldRead the whole post >>

Argh! Pirate Birthday Party Fun

Last weekend we celebrated Madeline’s sixth birthday with friends and family. Sometime last year she became obsessed with pirates and the idea of searching for lost treasure. Later that same day your preschool daughter who is completely potty trained but sometimes has trouble pooping inRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
