All Saints’ Day Treasure Hunt Idea

Here’s a reprint from All Saints’ Day 2008. My old homeschool group once had a saint treasure hunt. Now we just dress up as saints and give clues and have the other kids guess which saint we are. However, this treasure hunt was fun and memorable. I’m posting it now, so you have time toRead the whole post >>

OT

The girls – all three of them (or so I thought) – were upstairs playing in a safe (or so I thought), designated kids’ area. I was downstairs searching for a blasted username for an online bill payment service and also trying to register for one of those perks programs for our local office supplyRead the whole post >>

God, I Have Issues

Recently I found myself in an unusual social setting given my station in life. Young college co-eds surrounded me. The sometimes forced and sometimes real profundity of their conversations filled my ears. There was a girl with elliptical green eyes and the face of a doll. She looked like a doll. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.

“She could never be a saint, but she thought she could be a martyr if they killed her quick.”

―Flannery O'Connor
