Fifty Days of Feasting

Easter blessings to you all. Alleluia! I hope to share more thoughts on my Holy Week and Easter weekend, but a nasty cold and the nearly constant ministration to a sick toddler who only wants mama has left me feeling like a Mack truck rolled right over me.  Truthfully, I haven’t been in the bestRead the whole post >>

Birthday Pictorial

I’m still working out several kinks in the new website and learning my way around Word Press (please be patient with me; I know my feed has been a bit whacky, sending out old posts, only snippets rather than the full content), so I thought rather than attempting to piece together pretty prose describing MaryRead the whole post >>

Let’s Talk

On Thursday I had the honor of chatting with Danielle Bean and Elizabeth Foss on the Faith & Family LIVE! podcast. We discussed making friends, and I confessed my own insecurities and hangups about meeting new friends in my new community. I didn’t mention too much that a big part of the reason I haven’tRead the whole post >>

Meet Happiness Herself

Dear Mary Elizabeth, Happy birthday! Two years old – wow! Two years old and your constant curiosity has not resulted in too many casualties besides a busted lip, a bruise here and there, and a broken leg – wow-wow-wow! The Feast Before the Famine

The girls and I have a tradition of splurging on sundaes on Fat Tuesday. We obviously do not take this indulgence lightly. Yesterday’s binge Do not judge me. It was Fat Tuesday, so you’re supposed to eat fattening things, right? It was also my birthday. (Guess how old young I am!) Oh, and I’m fourRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
