Bedtime Prayer

“Will you stay with me?” I hear the small voice call to me. My oldest daughter is still not asleep. Unlike her younger sisters, especially my Rachel, Madeline’s vespertine mood is not quiet or calm. She’s moving until the very second she finally slips into nighttime hibernation mode. In recent months, I’ve decided I canRead the whole post >>

Quick Takes: I’m So Lazy I’m Just Going to Use Others’ Words Edition

I can’t even remember the last time I popped in to participate in Jen’s Quick Takes, but this seemed like a good way to kick off the first Friday of 2011. Since we are engaged in full Christmas detox and working to get our children back on track after several weeks of sweet binges, lateRead the whole post >>

Birds & the Bees Meet Catechism

Throughout the season of Advent the girls have been working hard to make Baby Jesus’ bed soft and comfy come Christmas Day. Argh! Pirate Birthday Party Fun

Last weekend we celebrated Madeline’s sixth birthday with friends and family. Sometime last year she became obsessed with pirates and the idea of searching for lost treasure. So it came as no big surprise when she requested a pirate-themed birthday bash. She had only two requests for the party: 1. That we have a treasureRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
