Baptism Day (& a Birthday Party, Too!)

We had a busy weekend. Not only did we celebrate Rae’s second birthday (snapshots capturing the birthday girl in all her glory are below), but we also welcomed M.E. into God’s family on Saturday. It was a beautiful ceremony and a memorable day. Happy Baptismal Day, Mary Elizabeth! *Baptismal gown courtesy of Gaba (my momRead the whole post >>

Got Milk?

I sure do. I’ve never been one to worry about my milk supply, and it’s true that I’ve been known to refer to my breasts as my Super Soakers since they spray all over the place and often cause my little one to choke, cough, and gasp for air. (Is it any wonder Mary ElizabethRead the whole post >>

The View Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This

Forget scarves, funky espadrilles, and fancy jewelry. Babies make the greatest accessories and add more than a splash of color and beauty. When I “wear” Mary Elizabeth, this is the view I have. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
