An Under the Sea Tea

We celebrated Madeline’s fifth birthday this past weekend. It was the first time I had a real party – as in, we invited two friends (and their siblings) rather than just relatives to salute her special day. Madeline really wanted to have an ocean theme, but she also wanted to host a tea party soRead the whole post >>

An Almost Wordless Wednesday: Mommy, I Look So Stupid

Don’t blame me, kiddo. Gaba was the one who bought you that silly fish getup.

A Poem for St. Patrick’s Day

Four-Leaf Cloverby Ella Higginson I know a place where the sun is like gold, And the cherry blooms burst with snow,And down underneath is the loveliest nook, Where the four-leaf clovers grow. One leaf is for hope, and one is for faith, And one is for love, you know,And God put another in for luck–Read the whole post >>

Happy Baptismal Day, Madeline!

Four years ago we welcomed you into the Body of the Christ. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
