{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week*. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you’re inspired to do the same, visit Soulemama to leave a link to your ‘moment’ in the comments for all to find andRead the whole post >>

{this moment} Jumping for Joy – Literally

(Yes, this post popped in to make an appearance earlier than I thought I’d scheduled it. I don’t know why I try to schedule things ahead of time because I continually goof up. What day of the week is it? It’s the year 2010, right?) {this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo –Read the whole post >>

Mrs. Testosterhome

Rachel Balducci, author of How to Tuck in a Superhero and Other Delightful Mysteries of Raising Boys, rocked the UGA house at the Grady College Authors Alumni Showcase yesterday – and she rocked the baby, too. In fact, the only one who drifted off to sleep while she spoke was Isabel. Her talk was greatRead the whole post >>

I’m in Love!

I’m in love.   So are my girls. So is my husband. With this dog. Her name is Layla. (Well, that’s the name she came with. I told the girls we were going to keep her first name so as not to confuse her but that they could give her a middle name. After aRead the whole post >>

Meaningful Chitchat

I had the opportunity to chat with two of my favorite mom writers yesterday on the Faith & Family LIVE podcast. (And boy was it fun!) Rachel Balducci (host of Testosterhome and author of How to Tuck in a Superhero), Lisa Hendey (founder of Catholic Mom and author of The Handbook for Catholic Moms), andRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
