A Lenten Fortune

For every day of Lent I choose a “Lenten Fortune” out of a container that looks like a box for Chinese take-out. Each slip of white paper includes a faith exercise. My Familia team leaders gave me the box filled with “fortunes” as a way to make my Lent more fruitful. Many of the fortunesRead the whole post >>

An Answered Prayer

This morning, very early long before the sun peeked through the window blinds, I woke up to Madeline’s announcement, “I have pee dripping down my leg.” Not exactly an alarm clock, but hearing these words has the same effect. I stumbled out of bed and dug in Madeline’s drawer for a pair of panties. ThenRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
