Dress Up

I’m playing dress up over at the ever-talented and incredibly chic Betty Beguiles. Seriously, Betty and I have got to meet one of these days. Not only are we both Southern Belles, but Betty shares my love for  faith, fashion, and family. Oh, and I owe her a big one for introducing me to ShabbyRead the whole post >>

A Necessary Curriculum Tweak

So we’re easing into our homeschool routine. Recently, in the midst of digging deep into archeology, my 3-year-old daughter abruptly said, “P.U. Who pooted?” (My apologies for this potty talk to all my lovely Southern Belle friends.) “I didn’t,” said her big sister. “Did you Mommy?” asked the 3-year-old. “No. I would have said, ‘ExcuseRead the whole post >>

My innocent five-year-old (who is feeling 100 percent better; thank you all for your kind thoughts!) has been attending a pottery camp all week, trying her hand at sculpting and painting all sorts of things. Today she made a birdhouse. She also made a new friend of sorts. When Madeline announced over dinner that someRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
