Regret Having Kids? Never!

Karen Edmisten recently wrote a beautiful post outlining 40 reasons to have kids. She wrote the blog in response to Corinne Maier, a French writer and mom of two children who readily admits (to the world) in a published book that she regrets having children. I read an article about her here and at firstRead the whole post >>

Lend A Hand

I love how kids take everything literally. Like tonight when Madeline and I were flipping through a Sesame Street publication and we stumbled across a craft activity that involved turning your child’s hand into a turkey. “Tomorrow we can make your hand into a turkey,” I told her, showing how Elmo had transformed his fuzzy,Read the whole post >>

Moment of Truth

Tonight during dinner Madeline wasn’t saying much. Her puffed cheeks indicated that her mouth was full of water. She sometimes does this in the morning with milk. She’ll take a few sips and savor it in her mouth for a while like a provident chipmunk. Strange behavior but not worth a fight. But tonight wasRead the whole post >>

Say Cheese!

I’ve had some requests to post some recent pictures of the girls, so here goes… Rachel Marie is 4 months now and has the most delightful disposition. She’s easy-going and very smiley. Our little fashionista playing dress-up with clothes my Aunt Jeanne and cousin Lilly sent us. Sisterly love…

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
