Ghostbusters

If you’re anything like me, you’re not haunted by ghosts or goblins. Yet, there’s probably something less supernormal but more real that haunts you and has a way of preventing you from living a full life. Is there a past sin you’ve never confessed? Or are you grappling with residual guilt that remains from anRead the whole post >>

7 Quick Takes: The Gratuitous Baby Shot, Time Marches On, & Other Random Tidbits Edition

— 1 — We’ve been engaged in some serious germ warfare around here. I had the first fever I’ve had in ages, and it knocked me out. I felt like a Mack truck had rolled over me; I was so achy. I’m getting old. Good news is I got over it very quickly, and theRead the whole post >>

What to Say to a Friend Who’s Convinced She’s Ugly

It was the summer after my freshman year of college. I no longer thought I had an eating disorder (just two years later I would relapse and discover just how entrenched I was in the pursuit of thinness). I was studying journalism and theatre in Italy. I felt independent, young, free, inspired – and fat.Read the whole post >>

A Cure for Comparing: Seeing with God-Eyes

A kind reader, who said she ordered my book, recently* sent me this message: “I was wondering if you may be able to answer a question. Weighty Issues

Join the weighty conversation over at Crisis Magazine following my interview with Zoe Romanowsky. (Just don’t mind the embarrassingly large photo of me.) An excerpt: “I truly believe that women, in particular, suffer from poor body image as a result of a spiritual attack. It all started in the Garden of Eden, when Satan temptedRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
