Book Update

We interrupt this blog for some shameless self-promotion. So some folks who pre-ordered my book, Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body, have been telling me it’s scheduled to ship this week. How exciting! And terribly nerve-wracking. (Nail biting begins now.) Do I dare even read the Amazon reviews? (A sidenote: the Kindle version is notRead the whole post >>

What I’m Pondering Today…

…and given my recent “restricted activity/modified bedrest” (or whatever you want to call it) mandate, I’ve ample time to ponder. “Our body is a cenacle, a monstrance; through its crystal the world should see God.” ~Saint Gianna Molla   Thanks to a friend for sending this along to me.

I feel weightless…

…as if I woke up, floating in a really good dream. Somebody pinch me, please. Is this for real?   Yup. That’s the cover of my first book,Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body, which is available for pre-order on Amazon. It was my husband who discovered the book was already on Amazon. I got anRead the whole post >>

The Subjectivity of Beauty

Welcome to Part II of my Hottie v. Healthy series: Beauty and sexiness are very subjective. (Part I can be found here.) Just to review, I agree a lot of women, for myriad reasons, may not openly admit that the desire to look good is what fuels their efforts to lose weight, exercise, and/or eat right. Moreover, there’sRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.

―Flannery O'Connor
