6 glorious years

The week of birthday letters! My sweet M.E. turned 6 on Easter Sunday this year, and she lost her first tooth that day! It was a memorable birthday! Dear Mary Elizabeth, Happy 6th birthday! As Madeline sometimes writes on birthday cards of little ones in the neighborhood, 6 is such a big number. Truly. WhenRead the whole post >>

Well, that’s one way to make a hand turkey

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And be sure to feed your family and guests well or they might end up like this… (Thomas once upon a time) “Bless the LORD, my soul; all my being, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, my soul; and do not forget all his gifts…” Psalm 103:1-2

High Five

Dear Mary Elizabeth, Happy birthday, my fairy-loving, yellow-is-my-favorite-color-of-the-moment-but-I-love-all-colors, sweet little girl! I can’t believe my little flower child is five now! You truly are a free spirit, who floats through life (always highly accessorized, of course) and notices whimsy and beauty all around you.  Wild violets poking up through blades of grass. Out of the mouths of my babes (Vol. 1)

6-year-old Rachel as I was attempting to use the bathroom with an entourage in my midst: “I just realized something. Mommy never gets any alone time. It’s not easy being 2…

…as evidenced by the following series of photos. I had told Thomas he could help open my birthday presents (I am getting old and am okay with it). Everything was all hunky dory until Mary Elizabeth wanted to help, too. He’s not too into this whole sharing thing. Thomas’s face is priceless, and so areRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
