A Case for Happy & Sometimes Sappy Mom Blogs – Part I

Every once in awhile, I stumble upon a blog post ridiculing a whole website or a specific blogger for being too much like Pollyanna. Recently, in fact, I read a series of posts on a self-proclaimed Christian blog criticizing another Christian blog for not being “balanced” enough and for putting too positive of a spinRead the whole post >>

7 Quick Takes: The Hodge Podge Edition

It’s been a slow blogging month. It’s not that I’m in a writing rut. I’m replete with ideas, but I really just haven’t felt like diverting my limited energy stores to fleshing out meaningful posts. Every day I jot down thoughts here and there in journals, but nothing seems to go beyond the embryonic stage.Read the whole post >>

Motherhood is Not a Prison Sentence

Happy Feast of Saint Nicholas!  Here’s one from the archives because I haven’t had much time to write lately (obviously). This is an old column (rather than a blog post). It originally appeared at Faith & Family LIVE! and more recently at the Catholic New Agency’s Catholic Womanhood website. I’m starting to raise sympathetic eyebrowsRead the whole post >>

Love Them Well

Imagine this: As you’re in the midst of school, you hear the toilet still running so you swing open the bathroom door to find a lake on the floor and a gushing waterfall coming from the commode. Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
