A place to sit and rest and remember

My husband was finally able to get in contact with the appropriate people, and we got permission to take one of our neighbor’s old chairs. Not long after, the girls got crazy (and messy) with some paint and turned a plastic chair into a piece of legacy art. Since our neighbor never married and diedRead the whole post >>

Through a (New) 7-Year-Old’s Eyes

Madeline received a camera for her birthday. She’s been clicking away ever since. We recently downloaded her first batch of photos. I loved what I saw. I love what she sees: Herself, up close and personal Baby brother’s smiles

7 Quick Takes: The Still Gestating, Crazy Preggo Lady’s Navel-Gazing Edition

~1~ I had a voicemail message from a friend recently where she said something like, “I’m Facebook stalking you and haven’t seen any blog updates or anything, and I’m a crazy, paranoid friend worrying that you had the baby.” For any other paranoid, FB, Twitter, and/or Google+ (I actually haven’t posted any updates over thereRead the whole post >>

7 Quick takes (Vol. 6)

~1~ In a recent tweet (I still can’t believe I’m Twittering. I’m the lady who frequently forgets to carry her cell phone with her and has never sent a text message in my life), I shared that we were having Blob Day. This is a tradition I’m passing along to my kids from my ownRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
