Lenten Clicking

Lent really crept up on me this year. Fortunately, I have a stockpile of resources to help my family and me along my Lenten journey. In lieu of a thought-provoking post, I’m simply going to list some resources, ideas, books, etc. I’ve used in the past, plan to use, or dream of using whenRead the whole post >>

7 Quick Takes: The “Of Breast & Women,” Discernment, & More Edition

— 1 — Thank you to everyone for your prayers on behalf of my mom. The recovery has been agonizing, but this was expected. My dad sent me a photo of her scar. It’s a nasty and Frankenstein-like. Yesterday I posted a photo of it onto Facebook. The image was really small on my phone,Read the whole post >>

Seeing with God Eyes

My Lent this year was disappointing, mainly because of my extreme suckiness I didn’t completely live up to any of my resolutions and felt that I didn’t grow closer to Christ or cultivate any great virtue. My Holy Week and even my Easter didn’t meet my expectations either. Idealist that I am, life rarely does.Read the whole post >>

Randomness

I missed Jen’s Quick Takes yesterday, but I’m going to indulge in some tardy randomness. Madeline makes her big stage debut later today as Narrator 1 in a gripping performance of The Enormous Turnip. I tried to convince the grandparents that they really didn’t need to drive an hour to see her on the stageRead the whole post >>

Christ’s Journey to the Cross: Lenten Inspiration for Mothers

From the 2008 archives (my little Madeline is 6 now!): I still remember the time I first really felt called to be a mother. I was sitting on a subway reading Mother Teresa’s A Simple Path. Out of nowhere I felt a familiar rush behind my eyes as they filled with tears. Mother Teresa wasRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
