Everybody’s sick around here

Even my 2-year-old’s baby doll. Fortunately, the baby and the girls only have some sniffles and congestion. This doll seems to be in for a worse fate. The Black Death perhaps? Those are actually globs of black Play-doh. My 2-year-old is normally a very attentive mommy, but she has recently taken up a new pastimeRead the whole post >>

Quiet time. {this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. 7 Quick Takes: The Extreme Introvert, Rotten Pumpkin, & Holiday Masochist Edition

— 1 — So my postpartum mood had been pretty placid – even chirpy – until recently. Over the past few weeks, I’ve morph into a weepy psycho. Preface: Just wanted to say a big thanks to all of you who have sent me well-wishes, prayers, emails, encouraging comments, etc. You brightened this preggo’s day! Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
