Upcoming Gigs (and some randomness)

This Thursday, January 31st, I’ll be chatting with Sean Herriott on Relevant Radio’s Morning Air show at 8:40 a.m. EST. We’ll be discussing what it means to be pro-life and how to champion the cause all yearlong in the first segment. We’ll then switch gears and talk about how to beat the wintertime blahs. Embracing the now even when you’d rather not

I’ve always thought of “living in the moment” in terms of savoring life and all its vivid but easily overlooked beauty. The weight of “now” needed to be measured and felt when a new baby who would soon transform into a lanky, little girl was in my arms. Being fully present during the happy orRead the whole post >>

Guest Blogging Over at Conversion Diary

Today I’m over at Jen’s spot – yes, the Jennifer Fulwiler, uber blogger and founder of Conversion Diary. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on the word “daily” in the Our Father. (Thanks for having me, Jen!) Incredibly, I somehow managed to marble poop into a post about grace, prayer, andRead the whole post >>

Katie & the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day That Ended Not So Badly After All

There’s a Palomino rocking horse on my front porch. He’s been stripped of his saddle, and some of his coat is a bit on the crusty side. He’s airing out after a toddler decided to straddle him in a very poopy diaper that proceeded to leak all over the once noble steed. I was downstairsRead the whole post >>

Punchline Killer

Daughter: Mommy, I have a knock, knock joke for you. Me: Okay. What is it? Daughter: Knock, knock. Me: Who’s there? Daughter: Oh, I have to go poop. Me: Is that the joke? Daughter, sprinting the nearest bathroom: No…   (It seemed fitting to kick off this new chapter in my blogging life with anRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
