Birthday Pictorial

I’m still working out several kinks in the new website and learning my way around Word Press (please be patient with me; I know my feed has been a bit whacky, sending out old posts, only snippets rather than the full content), so I thought rather than attempting to piece together pretty prose describing MaryRead the whole post >>

Random Post for the Week: Recipe for Homemade Hummus

Remember all those reader questions I was going to get around to answering? I haven’t forgotten about them and will respond to each one in due time, which might mean when my youngest – who’s still in utero heads – off to college. Since I’m busy getting ready for my big trip to Faith &Read the whole post >>

Bits & Pieces

I didn’t really intend for my recent blogging fast to last as long as it did, but life just sort of swallowed me up and there was little free time to do much of anything, including blog. The break was good for me, but I’m not sure I reaped much spiritually, which was the point.Read the whole post >>

Resources for Lent

Subtitled: An Obnoxiously Long But Hopefully Somewhat Helpful Post It’s late this year, but somehow Lent is still sneaking up on me. I’ve just recently been combing through online resources, notes, files, and books to come up with a plan to celebrate this meaningful Lenten season. I thought I’d share a few resources, ideas, etc.Read the whole post >>

Love is in the Air(Waves)

Yesterday I had the opportunity to chat with Elizabeth and Lisa on the Faith & Famly Podcast. It was an episode all about love and marriage just in time for Valentine’s Day. Elizabeth shares how she makes these delicious-looking Valentine’s Dots with her kids (yum and so pretty!). And I come off sounding like aRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
