Momradrie

As I mentioned in this post, I’m going to start sharing some posts, essays, etc. from the archives, which will hopefully mean I have more time to work on my novel. All of these posts will be labeled as “Recycled Series.” Enjoy! Attention Editors: These columns have been previously published, but are available for reprint.Read the whole post >>

7 Quick takes (Vol. 6)

~1~ In a recent tweet (I still can’t believe I’m Twittering. I’m the lady who frequently forgets to carry her cell phone with her and has never sent a text message in my life), I shared that we were having Blob Day. This is a tradition I’m passing along to my kids from my ownRead the whole post >>

7 Quick Takes (Vol. 4)

#1 I don’t watch American Idol and honestly have no interest. I’ve heard the cut-off age is 28, so I just missed my chances at stardom. Rats! But there’s still hope for our family and it rests in our two crooners (the youngest is pictured here). #2 I recently read a great editorial in TheRead the whole post >>

7 Quick Takes (Vol. 3)

#1 Meet Lint, my future son-in-law. Preschooler, as she’s stripping for bath time: First, I have to take my socks off. Then I have to pick my toe lint. I love my toe lint. I wish I could marry it. #2 Lest you think I’m a total junk food fascist with my kids based onRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
