Of all things visible and invisible

This morning my sweet 2-year-old boy delicately cupped my chin in his dimpled hands, widened his bright, brown eyes, and said to me, “Do laundry. Make dinner.” I have to admit I was expecting him to profess his unfettered love to me, not give me a to-do list. I laughed at this unexpected moment butRead the whole post >>

Better late than never

I had every intention of being prompt and posting Halloween and All Saints’ Day photos at the start of the week. You’d think that now that I’ve been resigned to a mostly sedentary existence because of that darn hamstring injury I’d have more time to blog (or clean or learn to sew or do somethingRead the whole post >>

Then again, I may need the catharsis because my dear husband encouraged me to get anRead the whole post >>

My first-world problems and me

I had a conversation with a fellow mom not too long ago that began with us joking about how it never fails that our sweet children mutate into screaming, clingy, little beasties the moment we pick up the phone. Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
