Compassionate Mom of the Year

I posted the old Santa photos below several years ago; however, every time I stumble across them again I get the giggles. I hope it might make some of you chuckle, too. And the good news is a more recent photo proves my oldest girl’s first encouter with Jolly, Old Saint Nick did not traumatizeRead the whole post >>

Rejoice! I shall say it again: rejoice!

{Gratutious Joyful Child Photo} Bonnie Engstrom, whom I had the pleasure of working with and meeting last year at the Behold Conference, invited me to participate in an Advent series over at her blog, A Knotted Life. It’s one of the few writing “assignments” I said yes to, and I’m glad I did. She gaveRead the whole post >>

The Suffering Mother {Rooted in Love Blog Tour & Giveaway}

Not too long ago I had one of those days Alexander has – a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. I can’t really say what happened to make my day turn out so lousy. Nothing devastating happened to me personally, although loved ones I knew were suffering from some crushing news. I don’t rememberRead the whole post >>

Love note

Yesterday I discovered this little love note on my desk: Translation: Dear Mommy, I love you. You don’t look old. — I’m quite convinced that my 5-year-old would surely have written something like, “you are radiant,” “you are beautiful,” or maybe even, “you are the fountain of splendid youth” if “radiant,” “beautiful,” and “fountain ofRead the whole post >>

Better late than never, right? ) Dear Madeline, Last night we headed to the fabric store to pick out some fat quarters to supplyRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
