She lives!

Yes, I am still among the living. But a few days ago I didn’t feel that way after a strange GI bug took a hold of me and turned me inside out quite literally. This was like the Master Cleanse times 1,000. Not that I’ve ever tried any sort of cleanse. The good news isRead the whole post >>

Love v. Fear

Murphy’s law of parenting: Tell someone your 3-year-old is a pretty easy 3-year-old and rarely has tantrums and that easy child will unleash her inner, barbaric beast. Said 3-year-old threw a tantrum of epic proportions during a recent Target trip. About a week later she was screaming her little head off and writhing like aRead the whole post >>

I hope your day started out less messy than mine did

If you leave a toddler with a spinach-very-berry smoothie for 2.2 seconds, it not only poses a potential choking hazard (never leave a child unattended while eating or slurping). Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
