Happy Birthday, Flower Child!

Sweet M.E., Happy 3rd birthday, my big girl! I’m late writing your birthday letter this year. I suppose that’s what happens when you’re the third child in a growing family. Both Nana and Gaba forgot to bring their cameras to your cupcake birthday party. “You can tell Mary’s not our first grandchild,” Gaba laughed. True,Read the whole post >>

Family Fun

*Forgive the funky formatting. I’m fed up with trying to fix it. I was honored to have the chance to interview Sarah Reinhard about her latest book, Catholic Family Fun: A Guide for the Adventurous, Overwhelmed, Creative or Clueless. Sarah and I have been e-buddies for several years now, and she was one of theRead the whole post >>

An Easter Giveaway

In one of my college theology courses, the professor told us that it would be just as wrong to fast during the octave of Easter as it would be to succumb to gluttony on Good Friday. When the Church tells us to feast, he said, she means it. – Arwen Mosher in her post, EasterRead the whole post >>

Joy Personified

The images below are new, but some of the words are from an old Easter post from two years ago. That’s the thing about Truth. It’s always timely. Children grow and change. Babies become toddlers. Toddlers turn into preschoolers.  Your first and second baby girls grow tall and lean, and you see beautiful glimpses ofRead the whole post >>

A Good Friday Reflection

This hasn’t been the greatest Lent. That’s an understatement, actually.  In all honesty, I feel like an epic failure. I set the bar low, and I still couldn’t meet any of my spiritual goals. Yet in spite of me and my failings, Easter will come. In the face of my sins and my foibles, thereRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
