Grab Some Grace (And Read Some Dr. Seuss)

I’m over at Sarah Reinhard’s place today taking a closer look at the Hail Mary. How fitting that she invited me to write about GRACE. I’m a grace monger right about now as I’m making final preparations for my big trip and speaking gig at the Behold Conference. By tomorrow evening I won’t be virtuallyRead the whole post >>

My Brain is Still Here; It’s Just a Little Slow

Last night I fell asleep putting my Rachel to sleep at about 8 pm. I didn’t wake up again until around 10ish when Thomas needed to nurse. I promptly fell asleep next to him. After a later noshing session (around 2:30 a.m.), I found myself wide awake. A random ticker tape of thoughts traveled throughRead the whole post >>

Post-Race Humility

“If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise, nor disgrace, because you know who you are. If you are blamed you will not be discouraged. If they call you a saint you will not put yourself on a pedestal.” – Mother Teresa of Calcutta as quoted in Donna-Marie Cooper O-Boyle’s Bringing Lent HomeRead the whole post >>

Go Ahead and Eat the Jalapenos: Breastfeeding & Food Sensitivities

After writing this frivolous post, several people emailed me or commented that, unlike me, they regrettably can’t eat whatever they want they’re breastfeeding. I hear of so many moms who cut breastfeeding short because they’re miserable subsisting on a limited diet. One of my mini missions in life is to support breastfeeding moms – inRead the whole post >>

7 Quick Takes: The I-Stink-At-Discernment & More Edition

— 1 — It’s official. I ultimately decided that leaving the BlogHer Network was in my best interest. This wasn’t an easy decision. I had exchanged several gracious, back-and-forth emails with a manager over there who was nothing but supportive of my blog, my pro-life views, and my writing. Likewise, the candid yet charitable dialogueRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
