What to Say to a Friend Who’s Convinced She’s Ugly

It was the summer after my freshman year of college. I no longer thought I had an eating disorder (just two years later I would relapse and discover just how entrenched I was in the pursuit of thinness). I was studying journalism and theatre in Italy. I felt independent, young, free, inspired – and fat.Read the whole post >>

A Big Return on my Investment

Thomas started smiling last week. I can’t get enough of his first goofy grins. Talk about a big return on my investment.

A Cure for Comparing: Seeing with God-Eyes

A kind reader, who said she ordered my book, recently* sent me this message: “I was wondering if you may be able to answer a question. I see so many people look at themselves and complain about how they look. It seems that so many women like to compare themselves to others. I try notRead the whole post >>

Babymoons, Evangelizing through New Media, & Pumpkin Chocolate Chunk Scones

I recently joined the Faith & Family Podcast for the first time since giving birth to Thomas. It’s hard to believe our little dude will be six weeks tomorrow. Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
