The best way to gain weight is to try to lose it: my path toward embracing intuitive eating

I haven’t written about food or my body image in ages. Sadly, that’s not because it hasn’t been on my mind. Just last week I was at an early morning barre class and I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and loathed the way I looked. But before I could fall down aRead the whole post >>

Kate update

I apologize for the radio silence around here. Actually, I don’t. Or I shouldn’t. I’m working on not feel guilty about things that really have nothing to do with my morality or my value as a human being, and frequent blogging (or blogging at all) just doesn’t fall into either of those categories. That said,Read the whole post >>

How to help sparkly child shine without them driving you to the brink of insanity

Sometimes I’ll look around a public place like a grocery store or an airport and I’ll see all these docile children, offering their sibling the last cookie in their snack bag or saying, “Yes, Mommy” when she asks them to hand over her iPhone where the child was quietly practicing her phonics. Meanwhile this isRead the whole post >>

Mom’s on TV!

As I mentioned over on Instagram recently, May just might be short for mayhem. The slower pace of summer is just around the corner, but this final sprint is leaving me feeling slightly winded (so is running lately while pushing the baby in my mega jogging stroller). You will never be this loved

This has been a good week. Busy, yes, but good. My schedule was comfortably full; I was able to get things accomplished without feeling like it was all too much. Of course, there are many days when I feel overextended and over-leveraged. There are moments when everyone needs my woman-power. Littles physically cling to meRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
