7 Quick Takes: The New, Little Man Edition

~1~ My midwife took this photo shortly after we welcomed our fourth baby and first BOY (we didn’t know the gender before the birth) into our family. I hope to tell little Thomas’s birth story soon. ~2~ Beneath that cap, you’ll see, is a lot of dark hair. Both Rachel and Mary Elizabeth were alsoRead the whole post >>

It’s a…

…BOY! I’m still in shock. I just assumed we’d be adding some more sugar and spice to our growing family. Meet Thomas Kemp Wicker born today at 4:38 p.m. I was blessed to have another natural birth. I absolutely could not have done it without my amazing husband, skillful midwife, and wonderful nurse. Thomas isRead the whole post >>

All in the family

My oldest daughter is ready for some human cousins as evidenced by her recent observation: “You know, I really like kittens and puppies. I like dogs and cats,” Madeline said, “but it’s astonishing that all I have is furry cousins.” My sister-in-law and her husband have two wiry, little pups named Winston and Lelia, andRead the whole post >>

Randomness

I haven’t had the time or even really the desire to flesh out any great thoughts lately. So in a lieu of a more meaningful post, I’m just going to share some random glimpses into our life lately. I’ve been nesting. I’ve been enjoying being a hands-on mom again. We’ve eased into our second official year of homeschooling. The girls have been happyRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
