This is the way; walk in it

A prompt in my Blessed Is She “Put On Love Lenten Study” this week invited me to include a picture of something that amazes me and to “capture just a little of His great glory.” I immediately knew what I would use to fill that blank space: A photo of my baby, my Charlie, myRead the whole post >>

Mirror, mirror on the wall…

I recently had the pleasure of having Ellyn, my 2 ½-year-old niece, over for the afternoon. I gave my brother two bags of hand-me-down clothing for her, and Ellyn wanted to have an impromptu fashion show. She fell in love with a lacy number that was a flower girl dress for Mary. I helped herRead the whole post >>

Tips for Attending Mass with Small Children

I had a blast on my first Facebook LIVE video. Sorry for all the rambling and baby swooning. One thing I’d meant to address was what a beautiful surprise and addition Charlie has been to our lives. I was far into the writing process for Getting Past Perfect when I discovered I was pregnant, andRead the whole post >>

Hello there! So, I have a segment on The Busted Halo Show scheduled to air on St. Patrick’s Day, and I broke a record for the broadcast. I used the word “poop” more than any other guest. Hold on while I add that to my LinkedIn profile. I also had my monthly segment on theRead the whole post >>

Finding Grace in Eye Boogers

“Mama, I have tons of eye boogers!” My day yesterday started with these very words. Sure enough, Thomas’s eye was gunky with boogers and had a shade 0f pretty pink. And it should be noted, that typical boy, he was pretty pleased with all the grossness. “You have pink eye.” I told him. “Pink eye?”Read the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
