Talkin’ Trash

So we’re enjoying one of those pre-bedtime evening walks I’ve been dreaming about in our new neighborhood. It’s a humid evening. I’m pushing a double stroller holding two little girls who don’t feel so little in this hilly place. I used to sprint up hills, no problem. But I find myself getting a wee bitRead the whole post >>

Glimpses

I’ve had a few requests for more glimpses into our new nest and our new life (which is blessedly beginning to find a happy, good rhythm), so here goes (my flash went out for a few of the shots and I could not find our charger immediately, so forgive the grainy quality): This is myRead the whole post >>

I Don’t Remember My Phone Number. Can I Have Yours?

My innocent five-year-old (who is feeling 100 percent better; thank you all for your kind thoughts!) has been attending a pottery camp all week, trying her hand at sculpting and painting all sorts of things. Today she made a birdhouse. She also made a new friend of sorts. When Madeline announced over dinner that someRead the whole post >>

The Whole Story

In my last post, I mentioned Madeline’s persistent fever. What I didn’t bring up is how concerned I was starting to become. My little, hopping cricket was no longer hopping. She was sleeping. All. Moms In Training

I got to hold this tiny treasure today. He was absolutely scrumptious. Those tiny toes. The grunts and coos. Even the present he made in his diaper while nestled in my arms left me pining for a wee one, a small taste of heaven (I’m insane, I know). Madeline was pining, too. On the wayRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
