Spring Chickens & Guac

Don’t let the intriguing title of this post fool you. There’s nothing thrilling about the content. Just a craft idea and a recipe for some delicious guacamole. If you’re a somewhat regular reader of my blog, you’ve probably gathered that I am not nearly as artsy as virtually every other mom a lot of momsRead the whole post >>

Celebrating the Easter Season with Children

The Easter season is one of my favorite times of year. Spring has lavished the trees and the earth with blossoms. Easter lavishes our souls with the hope of promises kept and new beginnings. Easter is also a season that lasts 50 days. That’s right – 50 days!  So don’t store those Easter decorations awayRead the whole post >>

Lent for Little Ones

My oldest daughter is only five, so I don’t expect her to draw up a long list of sacrifices. However, it’s my firm belief that even the smallest children can begin their journey to the cross with Jesus during Lent. Here are a few ways I make this liturgical season come alive for my littleRead the whole post >>

Advent Smorgasbord

Life’s been incredibly busy, which explains the recent onslaught of photos (rather than words) of my kids that are incredibly interesting if you answer to the name of Grandma. Otherwise, not so much. Give Thanks!

Enjoy your food and family. I’ll be back in a few. And don’tRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
