Still-Life with Kool-Aid

I’m always looking for simple ways to bring art into our home since my 3-year-old is happiest with a pen, crayon, paintbrush, piece of chalk, or marker in her hand. I saw this scratch-and-sniff activity that uses Kool-Aid mixed with water to create watercolor paint in a recent issue of Wonder Time, and it provedRead the whole post >>

A Kids’ Lenten Activity: Lamb of God

I saw this simple but wonderful idea of making a “Lamb of God” and adding a cotton ball for each day of Lent over at Karen Edmisten’s blog. For a photo and instructions, click here. We made our own little lamb today to help us count down the days until Easter.

Saintly Fun

One of the moms in my homeschool co-op shared this All Saints Day craft from another Catholic blogger. What a creative way to introduce your children to some important friends in Christ!

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
