Just Popping In

This will be quick. I’m really enjoying my break from blogging. This morning I wrote in my sorely ignored journal. I felt happy sitting at my daughter’s desk in her room while the girls played and I scribbled away. Despite the technology-laden world I live in and usually embrace, the most soothing way to writeRead the whole post >>

Why You’ll Never Find Me on a Diet

I have a few pounds to lose from my most recent pregnancy. I’m trying to make healthy choices to shed the weight, but I’m not beating myself up when I have a slice of birthday cake (we have several family birthdays to celebrate around this time). And whether I lose those last few pounds orRead the whole post >>

Weighty Issues

Join the weighty conversation over at Crisis Magazine following my interview with Zoe Romanowsky. (Just don’t mind the embarrassingly large photo of me.) An excerpt: “I truly believe that women, in particular, suffer from poor body image as a result of a spiritual attack. It all started in the Garden of Eden, when Satan temptedRead the whole post >>

Among Women Podcast: Making Peace with Your Body

I’m honored to be a guest on this week’s Among Women Podcast with the industrious and faithful Pat Gohn. (If you haven’t ever tuned in to Pat’s award-winning podcast, she not only covers great topics, but she has a radio voice – smooth and soothing to listen to – and, in fact, worked in radioRead the whole post >>

Yarn Along: Unraveling

I have no beautiful images to show of my knitting progress (nope, that’s not my work to the left; my creation is looking a lot worse, actually). Nervous, antsy hands led to a mistake I could not figure out how to correct, so I’ve had to start my humble, little scarf completely over. Sigh. SoRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
