We survived!

I’ve started and stopped writing this post multiple times. There’s just not much time around here for blogging these days. I still want to give a summer recap. Wait until you hear about what I used some of my Tupperware for several weeks ago. You couldn’t eat its contents. That’s the only hint I’ll giveRead the whole post >>

Bits & Pieces

I have nothing more to offer you than a hodgepodge post. This past weekend my mom and my two oldest girls took off for Peoria, Illinois for one of my speaking engagements. It was a fun and faith-filled weekend. The girls were very excited about the tea and the sweets to go with it. SpeakingRead the whole post >>

i is for Insecure and Gratuitous Kid Shots Along with a Shot of Smoothie

I thought about writing a serious post called something like “i is for Insecurity” that discussed how social media can lead many of us (ahem, yours truly) to doubt ourselves and/or to compare ourselves to others. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
