Living Lent by the Beatitudes

Thanks to Katie over at Kitchen Stewardship for hosting a Lenten Carnival. Share your plans for Lent here. Lent will be here in one week. Considering I never even got around to jotting down any New Year’s Resolutions this year, it’s a miracle I’ve started to come up with a plan for Lent. Avoiding aRead the whole post >>

Mary Elizabeth’s Birth Story

I’ve had some people ask about Mary Elizabeth’s birth day, so I thought I’d share some labor day details. I started having contractions on Saturday (April 4th) evening. They were mild but regular. They faded away for a few hours, but I woke up around 2 AM on Palm Sunday morning with more contractions thatRead the whole post >>

Penance, Suffering, and New Life

There’s nothing like a pregnancy completely planned by God instead of me, bed rest, and giving birth to a new baby on Palm Sunday to make for a more meaningful Lent and Easter. At long last after 40 days of fasting and penance, I now have 50 days to celebrate our Lord’s victory over theRead the whole post >>

Meatless Monday: Spinach & Feta Quiche

I’ve heard that some real men do eat quiche, but my husband happens to belong to the I’d-rather-not-have-to-eat-egg-pie-for-dinner camp. Word to the Wise: Taking on New Life

During my most recent confession, I lamented that I’ve already goofed up on some of my Lenten resolutions. The priest, God bless him, proceeded to remind me that Lent isn’t so much about what we give up but what we take on. Then he pointed to my burgeoning belly and said, “You’ve taken on newRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
