Waiting for my miracle

Tonight I was curled up next to my 4-year-old, my eyes half-mast. “I’m so tired. I just may fall asleep right here beside you.” “And stay here all night?” she asked hopefully. It’s been an adjustment for my two younger daughters to not be able to sleep with me now that I have to night-nurtureRead the whole post >>

Weighing In

I’ll spare you yet another post related to making peace with your body and focus instead on my delectable dude who’s weighing in at just over 17 pounds at 4 1/2 months. He hasn’t missed too many meals, clearly. The girls told our pediatrician that he’s going to like jalapenos and Indian food because that’sRead the whole post >>

What Lies Ahead

Yesterday I turned on the radio hoping to catch a few Christmas carols, but the station that began blasting R&B versions of “Silent Night” before Thanksgiving had already returned to its regular programming. If all we’re doing is racing around from one activity to the next, our days can easily become an exhausted blur. If we’re too focused on the messesRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
