Because I just need something to laugh about…

What do you get when you mix a house full of girls and a very patient canine companion? A fairy dogmother! When your kids won’t sleep, when your OCD rears its ugly head, when you try to be gracious and kind in light of your obsessiveness, when someone hurts you, when you feel like youRead the whole post >>

The Right Choice

I have a choice right now. A babysitter is here playing with the older children. The baby’s tummy is full, and he is content. I have loads of laundry I should be doing. We have company coming this weekend, and the floor is littered with crumbs, the counters caked with stickiness. There’s plenty of cleaningRead the whole post >>

Yarn Along: Unraveling

I have no beautiful images to show of my knitting progress (nope, that’s not my work to the left; my creation is looking a lot worse, actually). Nervous, antsy hands led to a mistake I could not figure out how to correct, so I’ve had to start my humble, little scarf completely over. Sigh. SoRead the whole post >>

Hobbies, Help, & Homeschooling Discernment

I recently had the opportunity to chat with Lisa Hendey and Danielle Bean on the Faith & Family Podcast. I always look forward to these conversations because I walk away feeling empowered and encouraged. I learn so much from these wise, faithful women. I hope you will, too. On this particular episode we talked aboutRead the whole post >>

Guest Blogging Over at Conversion Diary

Today I’m over at Jen’s spot – yes, the Jennifer Fulwiler, uber blogger and founder of Conversion Diary. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on the word “daily” in the Our Father. (Thanks for having me, Jen!) Incredibly, I somehow managed to marble poop into a post about grace, prayer, andRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
