Interviews on Relevant Radio and with Inside the Pages

I’ll be speaking about Weightless and its related topics today on Relevant Radio’s On Call with Wendy Wiese. Hope some of you can tune in! Last week I also had the opportunity to have a conversation with Kris McGregor of Inside the Pages. We had a great talk and covered a lot of ground, andRead the whole post >>

Thomas Update

Thanks (again!) to everyone for the support and prayers you showered me with after I shared with you that Thomas was having to go see a pediatric cardiologist. Please be sure to check out the comments after this post because some other families and their precious babies could use some extra prayers as well. Here’sRead the whole post >>

A Child’s Growth Does Not Always Glitter Like Gold

Here’s some wisdom I’m keeping close as I embark on my new life living with four kids under 6. The passages are excerpted from The Child Under Six by James L. Hymes, which my wonderful mom-in-law gave me. The book remains one of my all-time favorite parenting books, but it’s sadly out of print. “TheRead the whole post >>

Mommy’s (not so) little man

Okay, so he’s still my little man, but Thomas has gained five ounces since he was born on the 28th. Mama’s milk does a body good. He seems to be handling my abundant milk supply quite well. He audibly gulps it down and hasn’t spit up much at all. My husband worked all weekend andRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
